How Long Does It Take to Be a Paramedic

Paramedic

Use medical training in biology, anatomy and physiology to provide rapid response to patients in medical emergencies.

What's it like to be a Paramedic?

Paramedics provide rapid response to medical emergencies, assess and attend to patients with life-threatening and non-life-threatening injuries, often while in transit, and transport patients to health facilities such as hospitals. They are required to make quick judgments on complex clinical decisions and must be comfortable working under intense pressure. They often work as part of a two-person crew, working out of Ambulances equipped with stretchers and a range of clinical equipment and medicine.

Paramedics interact with members of the public daily and have strong communication skills, coupled with the ability to drive an Ambulance when required. They perform clinical tests and procedures, administer drugs, maintain patient records and must decide on the most appropriate course of action for a given situation, for example which medical facility to take a patient to.
